What were the differences betweeen holocaust work camps and death camps?
From what I understood, the work camps were for the prisoners the Nazis deemed useful as workers. They were selected for this rather than being kept at the death camps (I have always heard of concentration camps themselves being called “death camps”) or the gas chambers. They were processed through the concentration camps. Then they were sent often to satellite camps… the “work camps”. The Nazis charged the industries they supplied the workers to a small amount per day per worker. These workers were put to use in industrial settings such as munitions factories and mines. The end result of the work camps was always death, of course. When the prisoners were used up, they were gassed, shot, or just allowed to drop dead.
