It’s one of those wars that should have never been fought. The United States pretty much gave up on the idea of ever taking over Canada after it. It gave us “The Star Spangled Banner” and much later, “The Battle of New Orleans.” Sorry I can’t be more helpful. I actually read a book about it just a couple years ago and came away thinking that it was a series of mostly inconsequential offenses and botched diplomacy — partially due to the slow communications of the time — that got the war going; the war itself seemed to be a random collection of botched battles and missed opportunities, and at the end of the war nothing really very much had changed.
