What were the consequences of The Treaty of Versailles?

Um…. WW2 was the consequences. Adolf Hitler coming to power was the consequences. The Treaty was very, VERY harsh on Germany and put an incredible financial burden on them. At the time it was signed (by a new government) the Germans were still on French soil, so it was very difficult for them to understand how they were giving in to such a one-sided agreement. As a result, Germany was plunged into a tremendous depression and the suffering among the citizens was incredible. Even greater was the anger by the veterans of the war who endured every bit as much suffering as the French and English did. This led eventually to a nationalist movement that was not willing to live under the oppression of the treaty, which eventually gave an opportunity for Hitler to rise to power. It was the anger of the German people over the treaty of Versaille that really fueled the Nazi’s. Had the treaty been much more lenient, it is very possible WW2 would never have happened.
