WHAT WERE THE ADVANTAGES OF LAND REDISTRIBUTION IN RUSSIA DURING THE CIVIL WAR OF 1918- 1920????
Advantages: Ideological – The workers now owned the of production – the land. Political – the peasantry had been engaged in violence from about 1870 assassinating Tsar Alexander II as well as many officials and landlords, and their agents. The re-distribution was designed to rein in the peasants’ political violence. Social – it was designed to include the peasants in the new, socialist, project as Marxism was seen as an urban ideology. Economic – it was hoped that the peasants would produce more grain, so the state could export more, and could, therefore, fund the projects of the new government – such as electrification. Disadvantages: Ideological – the richer peasants could start to employ labour – thus becoming bourgeois and and exploiting class.
