What were the advances in medicine in Ancient Rome?

I’m guessing you’re doing GCSE history. I am too, and we’ve just done this. The Public Health System is included in the advances. Galen also advanced the medical knowledge on anatomy, but got some things wrong because he could only dissect animals, not humans. They still used the four humours theory, but it was more developed and practical. Galen developed it by the theory of opposites. It was that treatments should restore the balance of the humours. For example, if the symptom was too much phlegm, then the patients problem was caused by cold. He recommended an opposite treatment, something hot for example pepper. 🙂 Used observation skills to better diagnose patients.
