What were the accomplishments and goals of Cecil Rhodes?
Cecil Rhodes led many of the initiatives for British Imperial gain in Africa during what is known as the ‘Scramble for Africa’, a period of rapid colonization of Africa by European powers. One of Rhodes’ specific goals was the creation of a ‘Cape to Cairo’ empire for the British. In other words, he wanted British imperial holdings to span from Cape Town on the southern shore of Africa all the way to Cairo, a city in Egypt in the very north of Africa.
