What were some of the most important political changes that resulted from the Glorious Revolution?
There were 3 main political changes. First, and most importantly, England became a Constitutional Monarchy, the King’s power being severely limited by Act of Parliament. Laws had to be passed by both Houses of Parliament, not just decreed by the King.Only Parliament had the power to raise money through taxation (of any kind).The king could not dissolve Parliament, both Houses remaining in session unless they declared a recess or an election was due (there had to be an election at least once every 7 years).Parliament decided when elections were held, not the King. In effect, this meant that Parliament now had most of the political power, and was responsible for both domestic and foreign policy, and running the country. Secondly, a law was passed saying that the monarch had to be Protestant, and could only marry another Protestant.This ensured a perpetual Protestant Succession.
