What were some effects of Europes colonization of the Americas on Native Americans?
Answer The main effect was an ENORMOUS (but unintended) catastrophe! Its causes were the infectious diseases that the Europeans brought with them from Europe and that the natives had had NO experience of before and therefore also no resistance against. Europeans (& Asians) had by that time a VERY LONG experience of extensive animal husbandry – something that was very little developed in the Americas – and that long practice had developed a better ability of Europeans to defend against a multitude of microbes (mainly bacterias & viruses) originally of animal origin like smallpox, measles, influenza etc. When these microbes reached the Americas they caused ENORMOUS epidemics that killed off the majority of the native population. That was the main reason why the Europeans so easily could conquer the Americas. Mexico went from 15 to 20 million inhabitants at the time of the arrival of Cortez to 1.5 million a few generations later and that is just one example. In fact these lethal epidemics
