People did not live as long during that age as they do now. The time period is also known as the Victorian era. Marriages were usually arranged and it was always to a person of the same class or “station”. Women were subservient to men. They were dependent on their male relatives to support them. Elizabethan woman were raised to believe that they were inferior to men and that men knew better! Disobedience was seen as a crime against their religion.
