The Victorian era was a time of great developments in industry and technology, and most people had great confidence in the future, and the ability of science and tehcnology to make things better. many people became wealthy through trade and manufacture. The lot of poor people improved somewhat during the course of the Victorian era, as various Factory Acts limited the hours they could be made to work, and trade unions developed to protect the interests of the workers.
