What were last years community service projects?
· Perry: o Fall – The mentors and students worked together to create 55 personalized holiday cards in about 2 hours. After the workshop, the group visited one of the nursing homes in Perry to distribute the cards to every resident and lift up their holiday spirit. o Spring – The students planned a Sex Education Discussion at Perry High School with Ray Rodriguez from ISU Health Clinic. The project was chosen as a response to teenage pregnancy, which the students viewed as a pressing issue at Perry High School. This event had to be cancelled due to a last minute emergency with the speaker. · Ames: o Fall – This event was organized by the high school students themselves and required minimal guidance. The students brought the home-made baked goods, priced each item, and came up with a sale strategy (gave free lemonade, used 2 posters, and distributed members throughout the store to attract customers).
