Hello, The Romans were invited in to arbitrate in a civil war between the priestly class and aritstocracy. Previously they had given some technical advice and aid in helping the Jewish people to throw out the Greek Kings. In time they Romans got the attitude the Jewish people couldn’t govern themselves so they took over though they gave them a fair bit of autonomy compare to other provinces or jurisdictions. Anyway the Jewish society was divided with respect to Rome. The upper class and merchant men liked the Pax Romana and profited well by it whilst others detested Roman occupation and formed guerilla like groups to fight it. Nevertheless they adopted many Roman customs and ways and continued business as usual.
