The original “freedom riders” were a group of black and white folks that rode on interstate buses into the south protesting the souths “black in the back white in the front” policies. whites rode in the back and blacks rode in front. many of them were jailed. this was in the early 1960s In the late 60s a new group of new freedom riders traveled to the south to register black voters.
