What failures. The Vietnamese won their war and won their freedom. It cost them over 3 million people to do it but that is to be expected when they had to battle USA, Australia, France and USA’s hired mercenaries from South Korea. I think the biggest reason USA gave up was that Vietnam produced mostly rubber and in the 1960’s Dupont industries started making large amounts of synthetic rubber from petrolium. Even though the ability to make synthetic rubber was developed in the 1930’s it took until the 1960s for cheap oil and industrial production the get to where it was cheaper to make it than grow it. You won’t find it discussed much in regards to Vietnam but here is a small history of rubber to give you an idea why it was important enough to go to war for. http://www.iisrp.
