What were 3 negative results from imperialism specifically in China?
I’m assuming you mean from Western countries, right? 1. Opium – Chinese didn’t have any problems til the British brought it over and people became addicted. Eventually led to the Opium Wars, unequal trade treaties and Hong Kong becoming a British Colony. 2. The Chinese were considered inferior and barbarians in their own country. Extraterritoriality gave Western powers to override Chinese jurisdiction for their own. They used their own laws while in China to govern themselves and the Chinese, and Chinese were actually barred from some parts of Shanghai. 3. Japan took over Manchuria in their quest for expansion and dominance in Asia. The (ousted “Last”) emperor Puyi Aisingioro became the “leader” of the puppet kingdom of Manchu-kuo (Japanese occupied Manchuria). Manchu-kuo was the Japanese base in China from which they sought expansion.
