What weighting should be given to (clarity of) expression and spelling, punctuation & grammar (SPG)?
When assessing, the teacher should try to reward the strengths of the piece. It is important to balance between content and the accuracy of the student’s English language skills. Creativity should be rewarded, as should the student’s ability to select and use appropriate vocabulary. Before awarding a mark (for any of the eight assignments), teachers are advised to consult the ELQ descriptors, CCEA’s exemplar materials/commentaries and the most recent Principal Moderator’s Report.
