What wattage speakers to use for 4x50w stereo?

Your sony is probably 17w x 4 (rms). You can run as powerful a speaker as you want, but it wouldn’t make much sense to me to buy a high power speaker to use with a 17w head unit unless you have plans to add an amp later on. Any decent brand in the 50w range should work as well as anything and still work well with a small amp if you want a sound upgrade later on. You didn’t mention speaker size, but anything from a respectable brand should give you decent performance. It is impossible to tell you what will sound good to you. It would be very beneficial to hit some local stores and listen to as many speakers as possible. Ask to listen to them driven with low power since you will only be driving them with a head unit. If you listen to a bunch of speakers with 50 or 100w you will not be happy when you install them and only have 17 going to them.
