What was wrong with the original proposal to rebuild a junior high right next to the current junior high building?
The first and most obvious problem with this plan is that it failed to receive the 60% voter approval needed to go ahead with it, though it a did receive a majority of 55% of the vote. Beyond that, here are reasons why the Friends of Lebanon Schools believe the current plan is superior: –The current plan allows the school to be built on a site that is not undersized and that meets State size requirements. –The current plan benefits more students than the original plan. Only 300 students would be served by a new 7th-8th grade school on Bank Street. The middle school on the district-owned Rte 4 land would serve over 600 students because it includes 5th and 6th grade. –Because more students are served by the current plan, the cost per pupil is significantly less than it was with the original plan. –The current plan allows for three onsite athletic fields. –Most compellingly, the current plan keeps Lebanon’s options open for the future.
