What was the Tunguska event and what probably caused it?
On June 30, 1908 a violent explosion occured in the atmosphere above the Podkamennaya Tunguska River, in a remote part of central Siberia. The blast’s consequences were similar to an H-bomb going off, leveling thousands of square miles of forest. The shock of the explosion was heard more than 600 miles (960 kilometers) away. Baloo is correct that as of today only theories exist as to the cause of the explosion. One theory that he didn’t mention was that a mini-black hole struck the Earth. However, a mini-black hole would have passed through the planet and there is no record of a corresponding explosion on the other side. The problem with the UFO spaceship crash theory is that no wreckage of a craft was found. Today the most respect theory (after Baloo’s excessive bean consumption one) is that a piece of a comet caused this explosion. Since a comet is made up of mostly ice, the fragment would have melted during its passage through the Earth’s atmosphere, leaving no impact crater or no d
