In the Twilight Zone episode ‘To Serve Man’ humankind comes into contact with a race of aliens known as the Kanamit. The Kanamit come to Earth in peace, they offer to help mankind by providing them with the necessary means to survive in peace on Earth. They also offer to transport anyone wishing to go to their planet, which seems like a paradise. Upon their departure it is found that they have left behind a book, by accident, the title of which is deciphered to be ‘To Serve Man’. While this title initially seems innocent enough, it is the first paragraph of the book that reveals the true nature and motives of the Kanamit. This paragraph identifies to the reader that the book is a cookbook, and in true Twilight Zone fashion it is revealed that the offer to transport people back to the paradise-like home of the Kanamit is actually a death ride taking people to become meals.
