What was the subject of the book “The Jungle” by Upton Sinclair, the meat packing industry, or socialism?
I think the subject would be American contemporary social conditions, which includes an ample sprinkling of the working-class and their problems with greedy big-business industrialists. Sinclair certainly endorsed Socialism, both in the book and in his real life, but the book served to strengthen our democracy because the backlash created better governmental controls and conditions.
