What was the Stanford Prison Experiment and what does it mean for the Prison Design Boycott?
In the infamous 1971 Stanford Prison Experiment, college students volunteering for a psychology experiment were divided into guards and prisoners and put in a prison-lie environment. The resulting brutality of the guards, and borne by the prisoners, was tolerated by the experimental staff until an outside visitor brought the crisis to their attention, at which point the experiment was terminated a week early.
