What was the speed of a World War 1 Mark IV tank?
The tank first used at the Somme was the Mark I not the Mark IV. It existed in two versions, Male and Female. It was supposed to move at walking pace, but over the rough ground of the battlefield, it managed between one and two mph. Of the 32 launched into battle, 14 broke down without enemy interference. The Mark IV, incidentally, was deployed from summer 1917 onwards.
