What was the southern colonies main cash crop?
If you are talking about the southern colonies during the Civil War, their main cash crops would have been tobacco or cotton. Due to the environment, their location was ideal during the time for such products, as well as plantation life (seeing that the south used slave labor to pick such crops). If you recall the Anaconda Embargo the North placed on the South during the war, it was enplaced in order to try to “suffocate” the South by taking away their main source of revenue, cash crops, which they traded with foriegn countries in order to finance the war.
