What was the significance of Commodore Perrys visit to Japan?
it had a big impact in Japan. While on one hand it opened Japan to outside influences, it also led to a complete change in government and society. In the aftermath of Perry’s visit the Shogunate government was seen as weak by Japanese lords in handling affairs with foreign powers. Eventually the shogunate was removed and the Emperor’s court once again became the center of power. Society drastically changed as Japan looked more outwardly in its efforts to match the progress of other nations.
