What was the religion of Colonial Maryland?
To make matters worse Virginia imposed a State Religion which forced the Puritan minority to seek refuge in Maryland. There they became the majority and banned all Anglicans, Protestants and Catholics from the Colony during which time all Catholic churches were burned. It required the importation of a small army to regain control. In 2009 Protestants are splintered and the majority and the Catholics are mostly united and are the single largest body of congregants in the US State.
