What was the recent East of England Regional Assembly consultation about?
In order to meet the requirements of the Government, regional planning bodies have to identify (in their regional plans) District level allocations for Gypsy and Traveller pitch provision. The regional body which covers Hertfordshire is the East of England Regional Assembly (EERA). EERA has prepared a single issue review of its regional plan in order to comply with the Government requirements. This seeks to identify the overall level of need in the region and as part of the preperation the public was asked for its views about the number and distribution of additional caravan pitches for Gypsies and Travellers in the region. Overall EERA has identified a need for 1887 additional pitches by 2011 and suggests that between 176 of these should be provided in Hertfordshire, with 18 of these in Hertsmere. Counties such as Essex and Cambridgeshire are being asked to provide accommodation for up to 327 and 218 additional pitches respectively. EERA has now submitted the draft review to the Secre
