What was the reason that da Vinci wrote in a secret code?
Well, nobody really knows for sure. His “code” was simply writing backwards from right to left, inverting all the characters so they seem illegible. Combined with his messy handwriting style, somebody looking at da Vinci’s writing at first glance might think it were some obscure code or language. However, his writings could be inverted simply by holding it up against a mirror. So why did he bother to write backwards? There are several theories. Some believe that because often his writings were about controversial ideas that The Roman Catholic Church would not approve of, he had to code them.
