What was the reason behind the Anschluss?
The Anschluss was the unification between Austria and Germany. The reasons for the Anschluss are pretty simple : Austrians were seen as just another type of German like a Bavarian, a Prussian, a Hessian, a Saxian, a Anglian, Austria was part of Germany up until 1866 (Holy Roman Empire and German Confederation) then Prussia defeated them as top German state to forward the unification of Germany excluding all Austrian territory. In 1918, straight after the dissolving of the Austro-Hungarian Empire the official name of Austria was German-Austria with the union for unite was strong but was forbid under the Treaty of Versailles, this is sometimes called the pre-Anschluss. Hitler was Austrian (ethnic German) and in Mein Kampf says he would make union between both by force if necessary, he always considered Austria part of Germany, he himself native of Austria an ethnic German always identified himself as German which of course rebelled against his Father. The Nazis held a plebiscite within t
