What Was The Reason Behind Russias Ban On Pakistans Rice Exports?
Pakistan, who is a major rice exporter to a number of European nations, recently got a ban slapped by the Russian authorities on its rice exports, after giving no response to repeated Russian warnings regarding the quality of the exported rice. The major reason that the Russian authorities have presented for imposing the ban was the doubtful and ambiguous quality of the rice, the reasoning being to the presence of a fungus named Kapra, that made the rice unsuitable for consumption in accordance with conventional Russian standards. As a matter of ironically twisted facts, the very kind of fungus is not even found in rice. Interestingly enough, India got the same warning from the Russian authorities and the same nature of complaints from them regarding the presence of the fungus. But due to the timely intervention of the Indian authorities and reassurance from their side, the warning did not transform into an actual ban which saved India’s market, a fact that was not the case with Pakist
