What was the rationale for including the particular questions in the assessment?
The first step in developing the assessment questions was to look research and reports by faith-based organizations about what makes a difference in promoting healthy congregations. Based on this, a first draft of the assessment questions was developed. As a second step, focus groups were conducted with faith leaders (pastors, rabbis) from Michigan and other individuals dedicated to the well-being of Michigan congregations (such as parish nurses). During the focus groups, the participants reviewed the questions, topics, and approach for relevance to their communities and congregations and for overall approach. The focus group feedback was incorporated into the assessment questions and the final questions were reviewed once more by Michigan faith leaders and parish nurses.
