What Was The Production History Of The Land Rover Series 2/2A?
Approaching its half century, the Series 2/2A is arguably the best looking of the Series Land Rovers. Series 2 are becoming less common today, having been in production for only three years before being superseded by the 2A. Largely, the two vehicles are identical, with very few real changes externally. Under the bonnet, the two litre engine of the Series 1 was replaced by more powerful 2.25 litre petrol engines in the Series 2, with the 2A adding the option of 2.25 litre diesel engine to the line up. Wheelbases of 88 and 109 inches were the same as the later Series 1 vehicles. Series 2/2A Land Rovers are still going strong, with many of the shorter wheelbase models regularly seen at off-roading events, while the long wheelbase makes for a good classic people carrier. Like Series 1s and early Series 3s, the Series 2/2A Land Rovers are road tax exempt and can be driven on mileage-limited classic car insurance.
