A. The Citizens Advisory Committee on Family Life and Human Development made the recommendation to include sexual variation in the Grade 8 and high school health education curriculum in their 2000-2001 Annual Report to the Board of Education in response to requests by teachers to allow them to respond to questions from students about sexual orientation (currently referred to as sexual variation in COMAR). The Board of Education approved the recommendation in November 2002 and directed staff to revise the health education curriculum and develop a plan for field-testing the revised curriculum. In June 2003 a writing committee was assembled to review and revise the Grade 8 and high school health education curriculum to include information about sexual variation.
