What was the “pilot phase” of the FEC?
During 2003, five federal organizations joined together to develop and pilot test an incentive program to encourage federal departments and facilities to purchase greener electronic products, reduce impacts of electronic products during use, and manage obsolete electronics in an environmentally safe way. In addition, these federal organizations sought to provide partners with the tools and resources they would need to successfully achieve these goals. These organizations: the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive; the Department of Defense; the Federal Network for Sustainability; the General Services Administration; and the Environmental Protection Agency, formed a steering committee to guide this effort – which became the FEC pilot phase. The FEC Pilot Phase Steering Committee recruited partners from different agencies in different areas of the country to pilot test the FEC approach to better manage their electronics.
