We’re just now celebrating our first-year anniversary and we wanted to do something really special for the community. So we agreed to host a one-day workshop on filmmaking with Oxbow Art Summer Camp. In the summer, 50 high school kids came to Kerner Optical and we actually made a movie in one day. Our crew volunteered their time to act as instructors: from script and storyboards to building a set, lighting it, dressing it and shooting digital stills to composite into the final scene. The kids were amazing. I heard one kid at the end of the day say to his friend, “This place is sooooooo cool—I’m so excited I actually feel like I might explode!” Well, making things explode is what you do.
