What was the overall process the VFX staff went through in turning Joss Whedons vision into reality?
RB: The process the VFX team went through was very much like the production process. Firstly, a bid had to be done on perusal of the script. ie: The script was broken down and an Idea of how many VFX shots was mounted. Discussions then go backwards and forth between the VFX producer, the creative director and the VFX supervisor. “What’s achievable on the budget that we have?” Once this is formed, we then send this “Creative Document” over to production for approval. On approval, the creative process jumps into gear and the first thing to tackle are the story boards for all the VFX shots. This is then translated onto computer software where the Animators and Modelers start to build a computer generated environment, and ships in Firefly’s case, that will be composited in front of any live action plates should it be required.
