Yeah, Mao was pure evil and just wanted to shake everything up. Well, who knows what he really wanted, but that’s what happened. The communist revolution was in the late 1940’s, when the communists overthrew the old govt. But in the 60’s Mao decided that things were just not revolutionary ENOUGH, and an overhaul was needed. His appeal was aimed at the younger generation–he incited young people to overthrow any vestige of traditional Chinese culture–art, music, manners, respect for your elders, and so on. So it started w young people roaming the countryside trying to search for answers. . .spreading revolutionary ideals. . .but it ended w many young people informing against their parents and teachers, beating, killing, and starting makeshift battles w anyone, including each other. Horrible. Any communist leader that didn’t agree w Mao got thrown in jail and/or killed. So the communist leaders that actually were NOT crazy ended up dead.
