What was the most recent Space Shuttle Landing?”
Space shuttle lands back on Earth (UKPA) – 22 hours ago Space shuttle Atlantis and its seven astronauts have returned to Earth with a smooth touchdown to end an 11-day flight that resupplied the International Space Station. The shuttle swooped through a clear sky and landed on the runway right on time. Mission Control said no one could remember such welcoming conditions; there were no clouds in sight for Atlantis’ midmorning arrival, and the temperature was in the 50s (about 15 Celsius). It was an especially sweet homecoming for two of the crew. Astronaut Nicole Stott was away for three months, living at the space station. Fellow crew member Randolph Bresnik’s baby daughter was born last weekend. The crew spent a week stockpiling the space station. They delivered spare parts and performed three space walks to install equipment and carry out maintenance. The pumps, gyroscopes and storage tanks should keep the outpost in business for another five to 10 years, long after Atlantis and the
Commander Charles Hobaugh glided the space shuttle Atlantis to a smooth landing on runway 33 at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, on Friday – the tire-smoke ‘picture perfect’ touchdown taking place at 9:44:23 a. m. EST. The landing of the Atlantis marks the successful completion of its 11-day space station mission, which included the delivery of almost 15 tons of equipment and spare parts to the International Space Station, to see it through unwarranted failures after the fleet’s retirement next year. The crew aboard the Atlantis, along with its commander Colonel Hobaugh, included Captain Barry Wilmore; Leland Melvin; Michael Foreman; Dr. Robert Satcher; Lt. Col. Randolph J. Bresnik; and flight engineer, Nicole Stott who returned to the Earth after 91 days in space. Scott, who was launched aboard the shuttle Discovery on August 28, made the return trip home resting on her back in a recumbent seat on the lower deck of the Atlantis, to facilitate her re- adjustment to gravity.
