What was the Montauk Monster?
Actually, it turned out to be a racoon. My first reaction when the story was first released was that it was a pig, but I couldn’t tell because the pictures had nothing in them to give them scale. Actually, it only looks like a monster from one or two angles that some of the pictures were taken at. From other angles its more obvious what it is. It turns out after investigating, that a group of boys (I think a fraternity, but you will have to look it up) found a dead raccoon and mutilated it in some kind of ceremony. The news casts all showed the shots that made it look like it had some weird beak for a mouth. Also, almost nobody covered the followup story when they found it was just a raccoon, mutilated by some boys at a beach party. The same thing happened with a big story of a woman who found a Chubacabra corpse in southern california. The news made a big deal out of it, but nobody bothered to follow up a week later when the lab results indicated it was just a dried out coyote corpse
