John B. Watson (1978-1958) rejected consciousness & felt that the only subject matter that psychologists should study was overt behavior. Behaviorists deals with observable behavior rather than the mind. They believed that behavior was determined by its context (rewards & Penalties). They focus on learning and this approach allow them to extend research to laboratory animal subjects. B.F.Skinner (1904-1990) was a later proponent of this approach and emphasized the S-R model.
