What was the main crop(s) that each of the 13 colonies relied on for their economy?
The Middle Colonies were essentially the ‘breadbasket’ of the 13 colonies back then so crops like wheat, grain, etc. They generally practiced subsidized farming. The New England colonies were more or less self-sustaining when it came to farming crops and such. I know that there were at least a few towns in MA that specialized in fishing, but other than that I can’t think of many crops… Maryland and Virginia specialized in tobacco. North Carolina grew tobacco as well, but the Carolinas generally grew Madagascar rice and indigo. I can’t remember for sure what Georgia grew, but I’m positive that they grew cash crops.
