The U.S. Geological Survey said the 7.1 magnitude quake struck about 64 kilometers northeast of the Honduran island resort of Roatan. The agency said the earthquake was at a depth of just 10 kilometers and centered about 130 kilometers north of the coastal city of La Ceiba. Authorities said the dead included a 15-year-old boy who was killed when a home collapsed in La Lima, Honduras. The quake caused damage to buildings in a number of towns. The Pacific Tsunami Center issued a tsunami watch for Honduras, Belize and Guatemala. But it canceled the alert after no damaging waves occurred within two hours after the quake. Sources:
