What was the incentive for releasing a level editor for Tomb Raider for the latest game?
Mike Schmitt: Since this is the last Tomb Raider installment to use the current technology, CORE thought it would be great to make the room editor available to the public. Lots of PC users have wanted this in the past but it was never developed with public use in mind! Getting the tools to work on a system outside of CORE’s Derby office took a bit of re-working because of various quirks and the way directories & files are setup on their internal network. We’ll be supplying a Tutorial Level and documentation that users can play & analyze to learn all the basic steps (building, texturing, lighting, placing objects/triggers, etc…) In addition to the Tutorial Level we’ll also supply a few levels from the Last Revelation for reference. Users can open up and ‘dissect’ these project files in the room editor to see & learn how things were put together. IGNPC: How simple will the upcoming level editor be for gamers?
