The Industrial Revolution changed and increased productivity of factories, farming, mining and almost everything else starting in England, Europe and then swept the entire world. This sharply increased the living condition of populations around the world and increased population numbers. It’s also important to note that increasing population allowed Japan to benefit from exploiting from a larger labor force. People were forced into labor to produce agricultural goods and collect natural resources which were shipped to Japan. For example, even with increased population and increased rice production, Koreans were not allowed to eat the rice they grew which were shipped to Japan. Koreans were forced to eat lesser, cheaper grains like barley and corn or old low quality rice. Japanese colonialism actually had a detrimental effect on Korean population.
