Humans have believed in ghosts as long as we have been keeping track of our own history. The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, Aboriginal Americans, Romans and pretty much every other group had stories of the ethereal spirits of the dead returning to the living for any number of reasons. Shakespeare made use of ghosts in many of his plays and the Victorian era was when “spirituality” made it’s first major presence felt with seances and psychics.
