What was the first film to be encoded with DD Surround EX?
The Surround EX format officially made its debut with the May 21, 1999 release of George Lucas’s new feature film, Star Wars: Episode 1-The Phantom Menace. Widescreen Review had reported A Bugs Life (Nov 1998), from Disney/Pixar actually was mixed with Surround EX encoding as an initial test case (both in its theatrical and DVD release.) However, based upon report from www.smr-home-theatre.org/surroundex/surroundex.html it seems THX, Lucasfilm and Dolby have refuted this information.
