There is some disagreement as to which country issued the first Christmas postage stamp, with Canada suggesting they were the first when they issued a stamp in 1898 marked “XMAS 1898”. However some suggest that this was just the issue of the inaugural Canadian penny stamp that happened to occur during the Christmas season, and wasn’t a true Christmas stamp.
