What was the difference between Vichy France and Free France?

0

Vichy, France was the headquarters of the French government after the French surrendered to Germany in WWII in June 1940. The Vichy government collaborated extensively with the Nazis. Increasingly, the Vichy government practiced racist, anti-semitic policies. The US and Canada maintained relations with the Vichy government for some time. Free France was an opposition force led by Charles DeGaulle, who eventually managed to engage Churchill’s cooperation and support.

Vichy is a town IN France. The Free French Forces were French fighters in World War II, who decided to continue fighting against Axis forces after the surrender of France and subsequent German occupation, following the call of the de jure French government-in-exile (“Free French Government”), especially Charles de Gaulle’s Appeal of 18 June in 1940.
