There are many grades of diamonds, some are pretty much worthless, i.e. ‘industrial grade’ diamonds. They were probably coated in gold, like you said. So they were probably worth only a few bucks. Anyway, a lot of these TV things actually sign you up for a ‘buying club’, which means when you buy something worth more than you pay for it, you’re also agreeing to buy additional items every month, which makes it not a good deal afterall.
