What was the deadliest tornado in Kansas history?
May 25, 2005, will mark the 50th anniversary of Kansas’ deadliest tornado. It struck Udall, killing 80 people and injuring 250 out of a town that had a population of only 610 people, according to the National Weather Service. It caused $2.2 million in property damage, which in today’s dollars would be $15 million. The same tornado caused 35 deaths in Texas and Oklahoma before it reached Kansas, tying it for the ninth-deadliest tornado in U.S. history.
